What is the internet?

It is very difficult to define the internet. If we make a definition now, it is likely that this definition will expand in two years and will remain insufficient. Although it does not have a very rooted history, its effects on human life did not progress in direct proportion to its history. When we compare it with other technologies, there may not be another technology that creates such a change in such a short time. Since it constantly changes and develops, it will definitely be incomplete to make any definition.

However, the definition made is basically a computer network consisting of a combination of computer networks spread around the world and used for dozens of different purposes. These networks are connected to each other by phone lines. Today, although new technologies are developed, the most widely used internet technologies are still dependent on phone lines. Internet is defined as the common language of technology in some places. However, it should be noted that, as we said, it is a very incomplete definition.

It is difficult to answer a question like what you can do on the Internet, just like making the same definition. It's almost unlimited now. It is limitless from shopping to watching movies, from fortune telling to visiting museums. The Internet provides corporate and personal users the convenience of communicating with each other, accessing information resources and purchasing products and services. Although these users usually access the Internet using normal telephone lines via a computer and modem, there are also alternative information tools and connection technologies.

There are four important groups in the main economic cycle of the Internet: users, content providers, product and service vendors, and access providers. Content providers are all individuals and institutions that make any information accessible on the internet.

Who controls the internet? There is no institution that generally assumes the responsibility of the internet. However, it would not be correct to say that there are no audits or certain standards. Especially nowadays, serious steps are being taken in this regard and there are state institutions. Many Internet-based malicious processes have already become forbidden by law. In addition, although it was not an institution with sanction power in the past, today there are many institutions that have sanction power. States make their own rules on this issue. For the global standard, there are various groups working under the Internet Architecture Board that "propose" the general structure and operating rules of the Internet. The most important and effective of these groups is the Internet Engineering Task Force (Internet Engineering Group), or IETF for short. Members of this group include representatives of software and hardware manufacturers, governments and international organizations.

The technical infrastructure of the Internet is based on three important concepts: server / client architecture, protocol stacks, and packet-based communication. In this architecture, the software requesting information (and the information tool that this software runs on) is called the client, and the information provider is called the server. The common language that servers and clients use to be functional is also called the communication protocol.
